One more week down, several more to go....

One more week down, several more to go

February  7 to 15 --   I had to go out of town for a week, and another week of progress continued without me.  The weather had warmed up considerably last week, and today was a wonderfully warm, sunny day.  It was a real treat to come home to find the south-side deck was about 99% done as shown in these photos.

There was also a bit more framing done in the construction of the greenhouse, with the windows on order to be delivered soon.

However, a really wonderful surprise is that there are now STAIRS that lead to the rear entry -- no more walking up and down a narrow plank for me!  It looks like we will need some railing to finish off this rear porch.

In my absence, the painters have been working like crazy to repair drywall, texture the walls, and actually paint the dining room.  Here you can see that the ceiling is painted "snowbound" and the walls are painted "On the rocks."

This shade of gray is really interesting because it looks different as the light outside changes.  Hard to believe, but it is the same shade of paint in all of these photos, taken at different times of the day in the same room.  It is a warm, neutral gray, and reflects the light well.

While I was away, the fireplace "innards" were assembled and are ready for the plumbers, who will come later this week to connect the gas lines.  Pretty soon I should have working fireplaces, first in the master bedroom as shown below.

The dishwasher is now on-site, and is actually sitting in the middle of the foyer.  It was the last appliance because it was picked up by the contractor, instead of delivered the other appliances in December.

The dishwasher is now the only appliance left in my temporary kitchen/living room.  The dishwasher and refrigerator will be installed after the hardwood floor in the kitchen is done.

February 16th -- The head painter decided that he wanted to work over the weekend, so after putting in a long day on Saturday, he sent a text to tell me that he'd like to come over around noon on Sunday.

He put a primer coat on:

 the bookcases,

 the gathering room walls,

and the walls of the basement stairwell,

He also sprayed the ceiling in the gathering room and the kitchen.

The pantry shelves are now painted

The painters are hoping to start on the walls tomorrow.  Their goal is to be done by the end of the day on Tuesday because the plumbers and electricians will be back.

Tomorrow morning the light fixtures are scheduled to be delivered. Tuesday morning the shower doors will be installed.

If all goes well, by the end of February there should be plumbing fixtures, lights and electrical outlets.  The hardwood floors are scheduled for finishing during the first week of March.

Of course, this means I will have livable space -- maybe sleeping in a bed again and a master bedroom; maybe a working kitchen.  Once I can move into those rooms, there is still the second upper-level bathroom, the foyer and stairwell, and the remaining rooms that I am currently living in that will need to be emptied so that the painters can work and the hardwood floors can be refinished (and the stairs carpeted).

Just remember....one foot, in front of the other.....
