Inching closer -- inside and out.....

Inching closer -- inside and out....

May 18th -- The new finish carpenter arrived early at 8:10 instead of 8:30 and was rearing to go.  He is a very nice young man with skills that match his disposition.

The contractor thought it would take between 5 and 6 hours to remove the shattered library door because the mill work had to be removed.  I was amazed when the finish carpenter told me it was done after only 3 hours passed, and there was no construction or dry wall dust.  In fact, this guy is so meticulous that he cleans up as he works.  AWESOME!

Here is the new door with the protective film still on the glass.  He will need to return to install the door hardware as he didn't have that tool with him.

After the door was done, he installed the remaining quarter-round base shoe trim in the guest suite closet.

Then he called me and asked what needed to be done in the upper-level bathroom.  In addition to installing the sink faucet and setting the new toilet, there was a medicine cabinet to mount, towel bars, and other bathroom fixtures.

Wow..what a great job.  He will come back tomorrow early evening with the plumbing lines necessary to make the faucet and the toilet functional as those parts were not on site.  Given the rest of the items on the punch list, he expects to finish next Sunday.

While all that work was going on inside, I was back outside trying to get the yard in shape.  I have lots of day lilies in the front yard that need to be thinned, so I dug them up and decided to add them to the new perennial bed inside the front privacy fence by the flagstone patio.  In addition to transplanted day lilies, I added some small lavender plants and two leopard's bane plants that were on the clearance rack.  With the two blue berry bushes planted yesterday, this bed is done for now and the bird bath has a new home.

The Month of May's official flower is the lily of the valley, and sure enough the ones in the yard were in bloom -- right next to a hosta that is just coming out.

Tomorrow morning the company that installed the plantation shutters in the living room several years ago will return to let me know what it will take to re-install the shutters.
