I can see clearly now....
April 1st to 7th -- I have been out of town for the last six days, sleeping on actual beds -- imagine that! Before I left the work on the house continued, but again things seem to move so slowly as the finish line is in sight.
All of the windows were washed inside and out, and the result is amazing. Two guys were here from 8:00am to about 5:00pm and they removed all the screens, checked them, and about 5 were damaged and taken away to be repaired. Of course, the very next day after the windows were cleaned, we had three inches of snow, but when the snow was falling I was already on my flight and wasn't here to see it.
Here is a view of the pergola from the sitting room window on the upper level as well as a view of the newly shingled greenhouse roof with skylights.
As the season changes from winter to spring I am constantly surprised and delighted to discover the patterns of light in the new spaces in my house. The patterns of light are also enhanced by the sparkling clean windows as shown by these photos of the master bedroom and bath.
Here are a few photos of the clean windows and patterns of light in the mudroom and gathering room.
The window behind the sink in the kitchen will not only offer views of both the greenhouse and the side yard, but the back light from the southern exposure offers very nice patterns of light at different times of the day. especially late afternoon as the sun has already moved around the south side of the house to the west.
The window washing crew also washed glass surfaces indoors, such as the translucent door that leads to the pantry and the library doors that close off the guest suite from the dining room.
They even washed the panels of the sliding glass door that leads from the dining room to the deck and pergola.
The hardware has been installed on the sliding door.
While I was away a crew came in to re-glaze the original claw foot bath tub in the guest suite bathroom. The difference between the pre and post glazed tub is very dramatic, although these photos really don't do it justice.
The outside of the tub will need to be painted when the painters return in a few days to finish up their work throughout the inside and outside of the house.
The rest of this week will involve me moving whatever I can out of the rooms that I have been living in so that the painters can finish up and then the floor guys will come in to refinish the red oak floors in those rooms.
I am also very close to finalizing the first phase plan for the landscaping, and a very interesting e-mail arrived late last night regarding the refrigerator issue....stay tuned -- resolution should not be too far away.
When I got back from the airport and entered my almost done, remodeled house, there was a good feeling that this is beginning to really feel like home again.
