D Day

Demolition Day, Part 1

The demolition crew is in the house....literally.

June 19th; 7:10am   This is "demolition day, part 1" because only the mudroom on the back of the house will be removed (along with the stairs to the basement) so that the excavation for the foundation and the crawlspace for the addition can begin.

First order of business, remove the chain link fence that separates my front yard from the dumpster.  Look closely at the following photo....

Q:  Why go through the gate, when you can go through what used to be the fence?

A:  Because it is a more direct path to haul debris to the dumpster!

Second order of business, remove the mudroom from the rear of the house.

To prepare me for this day, the contractor has told me several stories, all variations on the same theme, that when demolition starts he invariably gets a phone call from the homeowner who is in tears, sobbing because part of the beloved house has been demolished.

I swore to the contractor that I would not call him in tears.  Not knowing exactly how I would react, I even told him that if the sight of the demolition brought me to tears, that I would call him only after I was cried out.

When I came home after work today and saw that part 1 of the demolition was done, I sent an e-mail message to the contractor that looked something like this:
